New fishing licences required

Anglers planning to go fishing tomorrow are being warned to get their fishing licence organised as new regulations come into effect.

The new licence applies to all people fishing from a boat with a motor.

The licences, which cost $30, can be bought from the Department of Fisheries web site from midnight tonight.

Nathan Harrison from the Department of Fisheries says it is time for anglers to get organised.

“From Tuesday onwards, all recreational fishers that are fishing from a boat will require one of the new recreational fishing licences.”

Mr Harrison is calling on anglers to be responsible.

“If people are planning a fishing trip visit our web site, the web site should be up from just after midnight with all the new fees and licensees in place and that will be the easiest way for people to take out the new fishing licence as of Tuesday,” he said.

The money raised from the licences will be used for the future management of recreational fishing.
